|Former Residence of Deng Xiaoping |
Designated as a major cultural relic enjoying State-level protection, Former Residence of Deng Xiaoping is situated in Deng Xiaoping Memory Garden. It is a common farming compound with 17 rooms around a triangular courtyard. These rooms were made of wood and covered with tiles, which is simple and unsophisticated; and the courtyard was fully grown green trees and bamboos. On the upside of the front door of the principal room, there hangs a plaque with golden paint letter “Former Residence of Deng Xiaoping” inscribed by former president of PRC — Jiang Zemin. On both sides of the front door, there are couplet composed by a famous writer in Sichuan — Ma Shitu. The first line of this couplet is that “Favorable terrain brought up a great man, who do his utmost to stem national danger, give help in times of harsh conditions and in difficulties, bring peace and stability to the country, and unite thousands people to rise in resistance”; and the second is “Great glory brought by the hero who save China in desperate situations, make good use of abundant sources and products in his hometown, bring rivers and mountains under control, encourage and promote both industry and agriculture development, and make younger generation praise Guang’an”. In the principal room and the left wing room of Former Residence of Deng Xiaoping mainly display things used by Deng Xiaoping, such as a bed engraved with dragon and phoenix where he was born, schoolbag of him using the time of studying in elementary school.
Another commemoration place in the garden is Exhibition Hall of Former Residence of Deng Xiaoping. This hall is composed by an initial room, three exhibition rooms, one movie projection room and other relating supportive facilities. The displaying contents in the hall include six parts: “Depart from Guang’an”, “Military Life”, “Pursue in Hardships”, “Desperate Situations”, “Create Great Cause” and “Hello, Xiaoping”, these make visitors have a general understanding about the great achievements in the life of the big man — Deng Xiaoping.
